harvestheart:

“For the sake of the widow’s son… I come from the East. searching for that which was lost in the West.”
I enjoy reading about symbolism and rituals passed down.  The Freemasons are simply everywhere and in everything.
I used to work wih a county attorney who was a Mason and he would pick out jurors who were masons without them ever saying a word and get an acknowledgment of same. (Justice? — maybe for Masons.)
One of my brothers happens to be part of the Royal Jesters and he visited lodges all over the world when he was in the Navy.  He had some interesting stories to share.  And country to country, it is like any group, the traditions are localized as to what is “appropriate.”  In Australia, Catholics can’t be Masons, yet in Spain, Austria, Italy and in America, the lodge roles are filled with them.  I find them a most interesting “secret” society.  Of course, I think the Mormon Temple Rites are a direct rip off of the Masonic rituals and have been changed down through the decades to fit their needs, but the similarities are unmistakable.
Now, me, I a “organizationally-challenged.”  I just don’t do well in any organization that tells me what I have to do or not do.  But I still like reading about them.
